He served in the Lok Sabha in 1980, from 1989 to 1998. again from 2002 to 2019. He also served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, another part of India’s Parliament, from June 2020 until his death in August 2025.
In his home state, Shibu Soren served as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand three times. His first term was brief in March 2005. He then served from August 2008 to January 2009. again from December 2009 to May 2010. At the national level, he also held the position of Union Coal Minister in the central government between 2004 and 2006. He was known for being a strong voice for tribal communities, the poor. those who were not given proper rights. Even with some legal challenges during his career, he remained a very influential tribal leader. His work focused on solving social problems, fighting against drug abuse. opposing the exploitation of people by private moneylenders.
